May 2002
Thanks for a Great Year and Have A Safe Summer

Hello Fellow IMA Members,

This is the last letter you will receive from me as your President.  (Please, don't shout YIPPEE!! too loud) I have had a wonderful time being the President this past year.  Our meetings have been very well attended (28 last meeting).  And I believe that our goals that we started with are being met.  IMA has been very good to me and I am proud of what we have accomplished this year.

But let's talk about our May shindig.  The last meeting before summer break will be on May 15th at Glen Miller Park.  It will be held in the "Cabin".  Look for directions in the newsletter itself.  This is a family event and will be catered by Pork Chop Charley.  It is VERY important that you let us know if you are coming.  You need to tell your captain if you want a chicken breast or a pork chop.  There will also be potatoes, vegetables, slaw, roll, dessert and drinks (lemonade and ice tea) will be provided.  We need to know what everyone in your family chooses and we have to know by the 13th.  If you need to tell someone you are coming and your captain has already called, please email me at shampton@mitlift.com and I will make sure your reservation is turned in.  The cost will be $8.  We will have a guest speaker that will be lots of fun.  He is a surprise.  We will also be giving out gifts to everyone that attends.  So please, please, please come and have fun.  We WILL have a great time.  Even if you have not been able to attend any or little meetings because of conflicts, please don't let that stop you from coming and having fun with us on the 15th.  We just need to know ahead to reserve your pork chop or chicken breast.

Like I stated earlier in this note, I had a lot of fun being president and mostly because I could work with great people such as you.  Thanks for a great year.  Without you and your support we would not have an IMA chapter or all the friends we have made over the years.  We have a great support network and I know we will continue to do so.

Remember that the May meeting will also be on the third Wed. (the 15th).  It will be held at Glen Miller Park and Pork Chop Charley will be catering.  We also have a surprise guest speaker that will be lots of fun.  Also, there will be gifts given away.  Please mark your calendar now.

I would like to public ally thank my board members: Cathy Maness, Bob Blair , Bob Reynolds, Peggy Berrier, Becky Smith, Jack Buckland, Steve Updegraff, Lottie Jordan, Lari Hunt, and Alan Weber.  Without them where would we be?  Nowhere.  They are the heart of this chapter.  Because of their hard work and dedication to this chapter we have succeeded in reaching many of our goals.  In last month standings we were 15th.  Thank you, thank you, and thank you.

Sure hope to see you at the park!!

S (LTS)

Last month the newsletter contained an announcement that IMA chapters would no longer receive compensation based on competition. Instead the chapters will be reimbursed under the new "Chapter Compensation Plan." The objective of this plan is to:

  • Separate Chapter Reimbursement from Competition
  • Encourage Chapter Service to Members
  • Facilitate Life-Long Learning
  • Stabilize and Increase Memberships
  • Promote Certification

To do this IMA will reimburse based on three parts:

  • Membership
  • Continuing Professional Education
  • Certification

More information can be located at the chapter's web site located at

May Shindig

Glen Miller Park
"The Cabin"
May 15, 2002
5:30 P.M.

The "Cabin" is located just north of Roosevelt Hill adjacent to Mac's Shack.  It can be reached by turning on the Charcoal Drive from the top of the hill or by taking the road from behind the band shell at the foot of the hill.  The "Cabin" is the building between the open shelter and the restrooms. In any case just look for the signs.

Reminders

New Content Specs
For CMA and CFM Exams

The ICMA Board of Regents has published new content specification outlines for the CMA and CFM exams, which will be effective next year, July 1, 2002.  The new specs reflect the changes taking place in the management accounting and financial management professions.

Overall, the changes to the content are not dramatic. In parts 1, 3, and 4, most of the content remains unchanged; several current topics have been added, material that is no longer relevant has been deleted, and other material has been realigned within each part from one topic section to another.

The major changes are to parts 2-CFM and 2-CMA. Part 2-CFM will have more emphasis on corporate finance and financial statement analysis and less on compliance.  Part 2-CMA also has more emphasis on analysis, as well as, less emphasis on auditing.

Again, these new content specifications will not be effective until next year, July 1, 2002.  If you would like a copy of this document, you can download it from our website at www.imanet.org or contact IMA's Certification Department at 800-638-4427, ext. 232.

Gliem Announces New Edition

The NEW Eleventh Edition of Gleim's Certified Management Accountant (CMA)and Certified in Financial Management (CFM) books, software, and audios will be available in early May 2002.  The new edition has been updated and reorganized to follow the ICMA's latest Content Specification Outlines (effective July 2002) and will cover the material that is testable beginning July 1.  Just like The IMA and its individual chapters, Gleim Publications has been working hard to promote membership and to increase the percentage of IMA members seeking the CMA and CFM credentials.  We need your leadership.  Please continue to make announcements at your meetings to encourage the CMA and CFM designations.  With the appropriate review materials the exam is very passable and affordable.  For more information about Gleim's CMA/CFM Review materials visit
